St. Louis Surveillance SystemsWhen I designed the digital video surveillance system for my mother's new home, I included the option to route her video security cameras through her CATV/Satellite system so every television in the home and adjacent buildings could display the video security system just by changing channels. When I first mentioned that I could broadcast the security cameras on a television, my Dad said he would never need that feature. Now, at least three (3) televisions throughout the home are "tuned-in" to the video security cameras at all times, 24 hours a day. When the dogs start barking at 3:00am, Dad can see what's going on outside without even getting out of bed! Vacationing has never been more relaxing and pleasant for them. With more and more coffee shops, restaurants and most of the larger interstate service centers adding free internet access via "Wi-Fi Hot-Spots", my parents simply log-in to their video security system on their laptop and enjoy the peace and comfort of viewing their new home and surroundings while having breakfast, lunch or dinner. Strategically placed infrared illuminators provide better than a 200 foot parameter (larger IR illuminators available) of invisible light around the home and adjacent structures. The cameras use this light source to capture all activity in total darkness and under all weather conditions. Coupled with an advanced relay controller, the cameras are able to respond to alarm codes from their home security system, which happens to be Wells Fargo in their case. When an alarm triggers, the appropriate camera swings around to the reporting sensor's position and records the event. In the case of a false alarm, the camera will resume it's normal patrol routine after a predetermined period of inactivity. In the case of an actual alarm, the camera will center on any activity and automatically follow the subject, if it should leave the area. When triggered by the home's security system or by one of their own pre-programmed alarm events, a screen shot of the event is immediately sent from the camera to each of my parent's cell phones. An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) maintains all cameras and recording protection and internet access during brief electrical outages (approximately one hour in their case - larger UPS's available). A text message is sent to each of my parents cell phones when commercial power is interrupted and once again when commercial power is restored. I used corner mounts for each Pan/Tilt/Zoom camera I installed. By using a corner mount instead of a wall mount, each camera has a full 270º field of view. This allowed me to program the patrol routines to over-lap each other and this helps to alleviate camera "blind-spots". The cameras are equipped with heaters and blowers and are able to reliably record to about 20º below zero. I can remotely access the cameras and easily make changes to the patrol routines or alarm functions, via the internet, as necessary. My parents are in their mid-seventies and accessing their video surveillance system couldn't be easier. It's as easy as typing in a domain name. Of course, my mother has placed a shortcut to her cameras on her desktop for convenience. Not only is she able to remotely access the cameras, but she can take control of the Pan/Tilt/Zoom functions as well. The cameras automatically return to their regular patrol programming after two (2) minutes of inactivity (when she's done playing... LOL!). With remote access to the cameras' history data files, my parents can call up a previous date and time and view all the action taking place at that time. All that is required for access is Internet Explorer v5.0+ or Firefox with the I/E tabs extension installed. Enhanced access is available via proprietary software. What Pan/Tilt/Zoom cameras did I choose for my mother, you might ask? I chose the Panasonic WV-CS954's, of course. Obviously, I did not use Panasonic's DVR or controller for my mother's digital video surveillance system. The enhanced features and advanced capabilities mentioned above are not available from Panasonic. One main drawback with the Panasonic controllers is that they do not have remote programming access. That means, if your situation requires a little more technical skill than you possess or want to take the time to setup, you have to pay a technician to come out and reprogram the controller every time you want to make a change. All of our enhanced video surveillance systems come with free setup and six (6) months free remote access configuration changes! Google Pack is a "FREE" collection of essential software. It allows you to install free anti-virus and free anti-spyware protection software.
